Batemans Brewery

In 1874 one draught beer was brewed at the Brewery, by 1960 eight were brewed. Three draughts - a light mild, dark mild and XB bitter, the dark mild and XB bitter are still on the draught portfolio - five bottled beers, IPA, Nut Brown, Dinner Ale and B.B.B. Up until the mid 70's, Batemans were also bottling naturally conditioned Guinness, Bass and Worthington. In 1980, Batemans decided to discontinue brewing light mild but added a premium ale to their portfolio, which was later to become one of the top premium ales in England, XXXB. In October 1987, to celebrate the end of the "Battle for Independence" and in conjunction with CAMRA, a beer known as Victory Ale was brewed.
